About QBEAM

The Quantitative Bio Element Analysis and Mapping (QBEAM) center was founded by Professor Thomas V. O'Halloran at MSU in January of 2021 as an interdisciplinary center within the Elemental Health Institute (EHI) focused on elemental mapping and analysis.

QBEAM's mission is examining elemental quotas in biology from single cells to whole organisms and how the interplay between metals and systems biology can be harnessed to develop therapeutics, elucidate the mechanisms of disease, and further our understanding of the ecological and environmental consequences of metal exposure.

We are graciously supported by the Michigan State University Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, the Colleges of Natural Sciences, Human Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, and Agriculture and Natural Resources. In addition, We are supported as a National Research Resource Center for Quantitative Mapping in the Life Sciences (QE-Map) by the National institute of General Medicine (NIGMS) under grant # P41GM135018.
